MM Tires Answers Your Tire-Related Questions

Frequently Asked Question

Mobile Tire Installation

Will you perform a vehicle inspection during my tire installation?

We have highly-skilled technicians, but we are strictly a mobile tire repair service. We’ll inform you if we see an obvious problem, but our service does not include a vehicle inspection. We stick to what we know best – tires!

My tires are mounted on rims already. Will you install them on my car?

Yes, we will. Essentially, it equates to a tire rotation when you want your mounted tires installed on your car. That’s no problem at all for MM Tires.

What vehicles will MM Tires install tires on?

We work on all passenger vehicles as well as commercial trucks. Car, SUV, pickup truck, minivan, cargo van, reefer truck, delivery van – we install tires on them all.

Can you perform my tire installation on the weekend or in the evening?

Yes, we can! We offer 24-hour mobile tire service all over Rockland County. Give us a call, day or night, weekday or weekend, and we’ll head over to perform your tire installation.

Are valve stems included in my tire installation?

Tire valve stems often contain your tire pressure monitor sensor. Because the cost of TPMS sensors varies greatly and are often not required, valve stems are not included in the tire installation cost. If you need new valve stems, we can give you a quote for them.

How long does it take to install a new set of tires?

That depends. The tire size and the vehicle play a factor in the installation time. However, most tire installations for a set of four take around an hour – often less.

I’m buying two tires. Should they be installed on the front or rear?

The tire industry recommends all four tires be replaced at one time whenever possible. If, for some reason, you need only two tires, they should be installed on the rear wheels so handling isn’t compromised.

Where can I have my tires installed?

Anywhere you are in Rockland County. We are a mobile tire shop, so we can work wherever your car is located. At home in your driveway or garage or in your parking stall at the office, we can take care of it on the spot.

Will you install tires that I already have?

Yes! If you’ve purchased tires online and need them installed, or you have a set of seasonal tires that need to be installed on your vehicle’s rims, give us a call. We can do it for you!

How do you install tires in a truck?

Our mobile tire repair trucks are fully equipped with all the tire repair and changing equipment we need to get the job done fast and right. From tire balancing and installing machines to an assortment of weights, valve stems and lubricants, we are a full-service tire shop on wheels.

Tire Rotation

Can you program my TPMS sensors?

In many cases, yes. After a tire rotation, we’ll relearn your TPMS sensors for their new locations. Some manufacturers use proprietary software to keep your business all to themselves. If that’s the case and your TPMS sensors need to be programmed, we’ll let you know.

Will you check the air in my tires?

Absolutely! Anytime we perform a tire repair, replacement, installation, balancing, or rotation, we’ll make sure your tire pressure is correct according to your vehicle’s specs.

Can you do an oil change while you work on my tires?

Unfortunately not. MM Tires sticks to what we know best, and that’s tires. You wouldn’t want your lawn care specialist repairing your refrigerator, would you?

Can you rotate my tires side to side?

Most tire rotations go front to back. Changing the direction a tire travels could cause the belts to shift over time, causing premature tire problems. If you prefer criss-cross tire rotations, let us know and we’d be happy to oblige.

I’m not available until evening or weekends for my tire service. Can you still help me?

Yes, we can. MM Tires is a 24-hour mobile tire repair shop. We can perform your tire maintenance and service 24/7 – night or day, weekday or weekends.

My winter tires are on rims. Will MM Tires put them on for me?

Yes! We can perform your seasonal tire changeover for summer or winter tires. Just give us a call!

How often does my car need a tire rotation?

Your tire rotation should be performed according to your manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. On most vehicles, that means a tire rotation approximately every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

I don’t want weights showing on my rims. Can you still balance them accurately?

Yes, we can. We understand – wheel weights can sometimes discolor your wheel lip or cause corrosion. Like static balancing, we can install the weight on the inner lip as well as stuck onto the wheel tub.

Can MM Tires static balance my tires?

Sure! Some performance cars or upscale rims don’t have a lip on the outer face. We’ll use stick-on weights hidden on the wheel tub to get your wheels perfectly balanced.

I have a shimmy in my steering wheel at 50 to 70 miles per hour. What’s the problem?

While it could be a few issues, it’s most likely a tire balancing concern. A wheel weight may have fallen off. We’ll rebalance your tires and correct the vibration that you feel.

I Bought Tires Online - Will You Install Them?

We will! We’re a mobile tire shop and will come install your tires for you at your home or office. However, before purchasing tires online and requesting tire mounting service, give us a call. Flat Tire Repair

How many tire repairs can you perform on one tire?

According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), a tire can only be repaired three separate times before it must be replaced, so long as the repairs don’t overlap. Beyond three tire repairs, the tire’s integrity is considered compromised and it should be discarded.

My tire isn’t repairable. Can you bring me a matching tire to replace it?

We’ll do our best! If your tire can’t be repaired on the spot, we’ll bring another tire along to replace it. If your tire is readily available, we will bring the matching tire with us so you don’t have to deal with it another time. Otherwise, we can put your spare tire on for you.

What do I do if my tire isn’t repairable?

It’s the middle of the night. Will you come fix my tire?

Absolutely. Tire repairs don’t just happen during normal business hours. Whenever you have a flat, feel free to call MM Tires to come fix it up for you right away. We’ll come to your home or office to fix it – even on the roadside if necessary.

Is my tire repairable?

If your tire has a leak from the flat tread section, it’s repairable in most cases. Unless the hole is wider than a pen or has a cut in it, it can usually be repaired on the tread section. The shoulder area and sidewall should never be repaired.

Do you use just a plug to fix a hole in the tread?

No. At MM Tires, we adhere to the Rubber Manufacturers Association standards for tire repairs. The proper repair includes a combination plug and patch for the best success rate and structural integrity. You shouldn’t choose any tire repair shop that only installs a plug!

My sidewall has a hole. Will you fix it?

Your tire’s sidewall constantly flexes. Thus, a tire repair, even performed to the highest standard like we do at MM Tires, is not allowed. A tire with a sidewall puncture should always be replaced with a new tire, or the spare tire should be installed.

Can I bring you just my flat tire to fix?

No need! MM Tires is a mobile tire repair shop. If you have your tire off your car already, we’ll still come to you to fix it. Once it’s patched, we can install it back on your car for you, saving you the hassle of finding a tire repair shop.

Tire Sales

Can I have just one new tire installed on my car?

If you must. It’s advised that all four tires on your vehicle are the same tread depth. That usually means all four tires should be replaced at the same time. While we encourage you to install a full set of tires or a pair at minimum, we can install just one tire if it’s all you’d like.

Do you offer warranty on your tires?

New tires come with a warranty from the tire manufacturer in most cases. MM Tires is a mobile tire shop and does not directly provide warranty on the tires we sell. If you have a warranty problem with your tires, we’d be more than happy to help you solve it with the responsible company.

What’s included in the cost of my new tires?

Rim Repair

Does MM Tires fix rims themselves?

We do not. MM Tires partners with a few local rim repair shops to have a high-quality product each and every time, and in a reasonable time frame. We’ll do all the hard work – remove your wheel, take the tire off, and send out your rim to the repair shop. Once it’s fixed, we’ll install it back on your car for you.

How many of my car’s rims can you have repaired at a time?

It’s up to you. If you have wheels that can be installed in lieu of the wheels being sent for repair, you can continue to use your car while the rim repair is being completed. If it’s just one rim, we can install your spare tire for you. Otherwise, we are unable to keep your car mobile while more than one rim repair is being performed at one time.

There’s corrosion on my rim’s surface. Is that repairable?

Corrosion on many rims today can be refinished to closely match its original condition. Some painted rims may not match completely with your other wheels due to fading or differences in paint manufacturers, paint code, or other reasons. In cases where refinishing is possible, the surface will be completely stripped of corrosion and refinished.

There’s a chunk broken off my rim. Can it still be repaired?

Sometimes. If there’s a section of your rim broken from the lip, it will need to be filled in with the same material to restore its ability to seal. Small sections can be filled with welded-in material to repair your rim, then finished to match your rim’s appearance. If it’s a large piece of your rim that has broken off, it may require replacement instead.

Can you fix scratches in my chrome rim?

Chrome rims are delicate. Cosmetic damage on a chrome rim is extremely difficult to repair, especially to match the finish of your other undamaged rims. We cannot guarantee scratched chrome repairs are possible.

How long does it take to fix my rim?

A few days. MM Tires partners with a few local rim repair shops to take care of your damaged rims as quickly as possible. We’ll do all the heavy lifting for you – we’ll take the wheel off, take the tire off the rim, and send it for repair. Once the repair is complete, we’ll put the tire back on the rim and mount it on your car.

My tire is leaking from the bead. Is my rim garbage or can it be fixed?

Bead leaks usually form due to corrosion on the rim surface where the tire rubber meets the metal. Good news: corrosion can be removed and the tire resealed on the rim to correct bead leaks. That’s a process that can be done without any downtime aside from a quick visit from a mobile tire technician.

The lip of my rim is bent. Can it be repaired?

In most cases, yes. On a steel rim, the lip is a relatively straightforward repair. On an aluminum or alloy rim, the lip could be cracked and require either welding to correct the damage, or replacement. A rim repair will need to be assessed, and we can give you a better answer.

My alloy rim is cracked. Do I need a new one?

Not necessarily. Alloy or aluminum rims must undergo a rim repair process that includes gentle and gradual straightening otherwise they can easily crack. Many alloy rims can be repaired at an expense much less than a replacement rim. Our mobile tire technician can advise you if yours looks to be repairable or not.

Can you fix steel rims?

In nearly all cases, a steel rim can be repaired. Cracks, bends, scrapes – steel is very forgiving when it comes to rim repairs. Often, a slightly bent lip can be gently straightened on the spot. For major rim repairs on steel rims, the rim will require a lengthier repair.

Does MM Tires Perform Rim Repairs?

MM Tires works closely with local rim repair shops. While we don’t repair the rims ourselves, our convenient service takes care of all the hard work for you. We’ll take your damaged wheel off, send it for repair, and install it once it’s fixed.

Can My Aluminum Rims Be Repaired?

How long does it take to replace a valve stem?

Replacing a valve stem is a very quick procedure. In most cases, we can change a valve stem on your wheel and install it on your car in 10 minutes or less.

Do I need valve stem caps?

Yes. It’s more than just aesthetically pleasing. Valve stem caps prevent dust, dirt and moisture from causing the valve stem core from being damaged or seizing.

Can you program my TPMS sensors after replacing my valve stem?

In most cases, yes! We will program your TPMS sensors after replacing the sensor or changing its position on your car. If your sensor can only be programmed by the dealership, we’ll inform you and walk you through your options.

Do you replace my valve stems when my tires are changed?

Unfortunately, no. Valve stems on many vehicles contain a TPMS sensor, which only needs to be replaced if it fails. If you need valve stem replacement while your tires are being changed, make sure you let us know and we will accommodate.

My valve stem is leaking. Does it need to be replaced?

Maybe. A valve stem has a core that may be the issue as well. Sometimes, the core just needs to be tightened while in other cases, the valve stem itself needs to be replaced. Either way, it’s a service MM Tires can perform for you.
